Technically you did, but unless you were using a super-fancy pano head (which is cumbersome for on-the-fly shoots, while part of the point of the method is to not have to carry a cumbersome system like large format camera everywhere), then it’s almost impossible not to. Try to keep the lens axis as centered as possible, but also watch out for things that are very susceptible to parallax error, such as railings.
